The legal AI startup has raised over $1.55 billion in total capital, nearly doubling its valuation in nine months as it pivots toward in-house models.
Legal AI startup Harvey has announced a new funding round that pushes its valuation to $15.5 billion, as TechCrunch first reported. The round, which raised $550 million, was co-led by Lightspeed Venture Partners and Diffusion.
This latest capital injection follows a rapid series of valuation jumps. TechCrunch reports that in March, the company reached an $11 billion valuation following a $200 million round. Prior to that, in December, the company was valued at $8 billion. In total, Harvey has raised more than $1.55 billion. While the company did not specify the name of the current round, PitchBook estimates that Harvey has completed at least eight priced rounds since 2023, five of which occurred since 2025. Due to previous extension rounds, TechCrunch notes this latest round could be classified as a Series F.
The valuation surge coincides with a shift in the company's technical strategy. TechCrunch reports that Harvey recently unveiled its first in-house model, Harvey Tenet. The model was built using the open-weight model Kimi K3 and post-trained on legal data with assistance from inference provider Fireworks.
Beyond providing its own model, Harvey is now prompting its clients to post-train and adopt their own open-weight models. This approach positions the company as a blueprint for the legal industry to integrate artificial intelligence without maintaining a dependency on proprietary frontier AI labs such as Anthropic or OpenAI.
